About Us

The Xeric Garden Club of Albuquerque was formed in 1995 at a time when Xeriscaping was barely a word and often misstated and misunderstood as Zero-scaping (gravel). We maintain a membership of about 75 individuals and families.  Often our club is the first stopping place for transplants from other parts of the country who are unfamiliar with the climate, soils, native and appropriate plants and just don’t know where to start. Our group is knowledgeable, helpful, non-judgmental and fun.

Our indoor programs are scheduled for January through March, and September through November at the Albuquerque Garden Center and open to the public.  Our annual plant sale at the Garden Center is in April. The Annual Garden Tour is in either May or June which is in a different area of Albuquerque each year or based on a particular season across the city.  The rest of the warm months we can be found visiting other members’ gardens or public spaces. In July, many of our club members are involved in the annual Garden Guardians summer Kid’s camp.

From May through September, we also hold docent-led tours and talks in our habitat garden, maintained by the Xeric Garden Club and located at the Albuquerque Garden Center. There are many opportunities to get to know our friendly members better by volunteering to help with our garden and other activities.  The Xeric Garden Club is a member of the Council of Albuquerque Garden Clubs which is the owner of the Albuquerque Garden Center. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind facility entirely built and maintained for the use of the garden clubs and their shows, sales and activities.
